The steelers are the only decent team in american football. the Miami dolphins were alright when dan marino was about, and I quite like the refriderator dude, didnt he play for chicago? However when i think gridiron, i think blue collar hardcore fans. STEELERS!

Shaun Alexander became crappy when Steve hutchison left, he was a product of the o-line. Bush has been a vastly overhyped player since he came into the league.
everyone has expected the world of him, but he's never really been able to meet expectations. He's played decently receiving out of the backfield but he just hasn't run the ball effectively. Last year he was averaging a full yard less than Duece behind the same line, what does that tell you? LT had a slow start, but he's been picking it up and he's been pretty consistent for what, 8 years now? That's a decent track record.

I agree on both points. A good O-line can make any RB look great. Just look at the Colts runningbacks. They are hemorrhaging RB's, every year people predict that the Colts have lost their ground game. Every year it's just not true. The real power behind a good ground game is the O-line. The Colts have one of the best in football.

When the Steelers next win the Superbowl, I'll believe you. Until then I'll stick with the Pats and the Colts being the best. BTW, yes the Fridge did play for the Bears, back in the 80's. Bears still play smashmouth football. You can't get much more blue collar than the Steelers and the Bears.

I do agree with you on the injury potential situation, but personally I'm glad he let his collar bone heal naturally, that way the Lions skipped over him. biggrin.gif But regardless he's having one heck of a breakout season, breaking the all time single game rushing record and on pace to break 2k yard rushing, which doesn't look out of reach. Also his best games came against teams with formidable (or so they were once called) defenses. (Bears, Chargers)

Bears lost their D-line and Mike Brown. Not sure what happened to the Chargers. I do agree with you about Peterson's season. We'll just have to wait and see what happens regarding injury and how he does next season.

I think with Harrison and if Gonzalez wouldn't have gotten hurt, the Colts would have come back as well. I also think that while Tom Brady is getting all of the press, Peyton should never be underestimated because another QB is having a great season. Peyton Manning is Peyton Manning. Enough said. When they meet up again in the playoffs (I'm going to say it's a fairly safe bet to make) and Peyton has all of his weapons, the Pats will be in some serious trouble.

Hey I'm from Minnesota and I'm a Pack fan, anything's possible. Plus, placing your hope in the Bears isn't looking like it's going to get you very far this season. At least you have the Colts as a backup.

Yeah if anyone's going to beat the Pats, it's going to be them. While Peyton doesn't like to lose and will be seeking revenge, I think it's still going to be a hard-fought game, and will probably get better ratings than the Super Bowl, considering whoever wins that game is going to win the SB. (Well ok, there's a 99% chance they will)

Agreed, but after watching so much Sportscenter with all of those buffoons placing Dallas in the same league as the Colts and Pats just got to me. That was settled when the Pats manhandled the Cowboys. What an overhyped game.

Pfft, I stopped listening to those sportscenter buffoons awhile ago. Anyone who places Troy Smith over Darren McFadden or Brady Quinn is a bunch of nitwits. And this season, anyone who still thinks Matt Ryan should win the Heisman is stupid as well. If anyone should win the Heisman, it should be either Colt Brennan or Dixon out of Oregon. Both those teams play like crap when those QB's are out of the lineup for some reason. And yeah, it really was overhyped.

No idea, but I think when it comes to the rematch, I think homefield advantage could make all of the difference.

I dunno, Colts played Pats last year at Foxborough and won. Pats played Colts this year at RCA Dome and won. As good as those two teams are, I dunno how much difference the setting really makes.

Maybe it was just the destruction of the Ravens, but the Steelers have been looking pretty hot lately, and look to me as the only serious threat to the Pats perfect season. I guess we'll just have to wait a few more weeks to see.

thats right the steelers are blue collar, they were all steelers fans in the Deer hunter, which is a VERY good film.

Ok i got a question, can anyone briefly explain the process of the draft? I understand that there is some sort of restriction on how many good players a particular team can have, and indeed on how much money a team can spend recruiting players. In proper football we have the problem of some clubs monopolising all the best players, but it seems us football has adopted measures to combat this?

The draft is basically when all the college football players enter the pros. This is usually done after their senior year, but a fair number of players will leave after their junior year, and upon rare occasion they will leave after their sophomore year. (In case you guys don't use those terms that's basically after graduation, with 1 year of school left to go, or with 2 years of school left to go, respectively)

Once all these players are in this pool the teams each take their turns picking a player of their choice from this pool. There are 7 rounds of the draft, and in each round each team gets to pick once. They pick in order from the crappiest team to the best team. This is one way to balance the teams out, since in each round the worst teams pick first that allows them to get the better players.

The biggest factor in preventing teams from getting too lopsided is the salary cap. Each team can only spend up to X amount of money for their total team salary each year. This year I think it's around $120 mil or so, and that number changes based on how much money the league made that year. This prevents a team from loading up on all the high priced superstars.

There's still perennially crappy teams, but overall it works out reasonably well.

Unless you manage to pick up superstars at a cut-rate price like the Patriots managed to do with Randy Moss. Or you overload the offense with superstars, and sacrifice the defense like the Colts do. Colts defense is good because they pick up good players early, and have a few very good veterans, all in a good system. Meanwhile the offense has been given all the money. Which is why they have such a team loaded so absurdly with good offensive players.

Oh Bugger you Nuke, if this years college season has shown anything, it's shown that Quinn is one of the big reasons ND was any good at all last year.

Speaking of the Dolphins... almost won one, but they blew it.

The Steelers made me quite uneasy at first when I saw they were down 24-6 (or something like that) but they made a great comeback.

The Giants never had a chance.

So far I've seen the Chargers return a kickoff for a TD and get 2 interceptions early in the first quarter... against the Colts... what's up special teams and Peyton?

Well, 5 ints, all the breaks going against the Colts, and it still comes down to a missed field goal at the end the game. Colts lose, 23-21. Adam Vinaterri missed a game winning kick. I'm in utter shock at that one. Colts should have won that game. They got tricksy though and it cost them. I think the refs were a bit biased though. One of them looked like he was smiling when he called a false start on the Colts. Another time they didn't call a clear example of pass interference.

Bears win, should have beat the Raiders by 4 touchdowns, but they still won 17-6. God Grossman sucks. Didn't see many other games, heard the Vikings got shut out though.

College Football- ND still has the worst team they've ever had. Lost to Air Force 41-24. Michigan lost to Wisconsin, and Ohio State got knocked off by Illinois. So happy about that. Boston College lost again as well.

I'm glad OSU got knocked off, and glad that LSU is back on top and Oregon is second.

A little biased like the refs were in the Pats/Colts game.

The only part(s) of the NFC I still care about are Adrian Peterson, Brian Westbrook, and Brett Farve... all of whom are on my fantasy team, of course.

Oh yeah, the one at the end of the game... I forgot. Gah. All the difference they really made was that's 6 drives that the Colts never finished. Oh well. They are still one of the top two teams in the AFC. When you can throw 6 INTS, and be without 3 of your best receivers and still do as well as they did, that's damn impressive. Especially against a rising Chargers team.

Bears won though. 4-5 now. Yay.
