Bah, McAfee sucks! I used to like it until it screwed up my wireless internet (twice) when I uninstalled the firewall (this was the 2000 version). In the end I had to reinstall (reformat) two computers because of it... I'm not touching McAfee again... I almost went to Norton but I ended up not using it because of two reasons... 1. It appears to be a large and obtrusive program, and 2. because I found AVG *free*. I strongly suggest you get it and don't spend any money on McAfee or Norton. AVG is a very small unobtrusive program which will detect 99% of the viruses out there.
Also on the spyware issue, I have found that Microsoft anti spyware (despite my initial skepticism) seems to be the best antispyware around, beating both spy-bot and ad-aware free (and matching them combined).
Note: All of the above info is from personal observations.
p.s. Has anybody seen the beta google toolbar (for internet explorer)? It comes with a very nifty spell checker along with many other things.
