Put the first one in your drive and reboot. Make sure that your computer boots from the CD-drive before the harddrive. You can do this by pressing either F2, F12, or Esc (some other keys do the trick, watch what your computer says when it boots up) as your computer is booting up, then fiddle with the options (usually called "Boot Order") until you can boot from the CD-drive. Then follow the instructions. SUSE should take care of it all for you including partitioning.

I have finished installing SUSE. It is working well except that it does not detect that my graphics card supports 3d.

that's normal. google or look up some SuSe repos, or I'm sure Beatles and Devari have their preferences

the 3D drivers are pro.. somthin. the free distros cannot legally include them. but you can download and install them all the same. same with DVD, MP3, etc. playback

its easiest if the card is ati or nvidia, but the drivers for the intel etc. chips are also out there

*shrug* that seems like what you did, using YOU anyhow

as a test, run glxgears in a terminal

I think SUSE has a script to set up NVIDIA. Sorry I can't remember exactly how. Maybe if you install the package with yast.
There's a howto here:
http://en.opensuse.org/NVIDIA

but I didn't have to do ANYTHING that complicated -- just some point and clicks. Try it though.

Say, Beatles, does your recomendation for Suse 10.0 still hold? I got this new laptop with a largely empty hard drive and I am intrested in dual booting between the preinstalled Windoze Media Center version and a Linux distro.

Very much so. I don't anticipate migrating from SUSE for the foreseeable future, I quite love it.

BEFORE YOU INSTALL READ THIS:

The package manager in SUSE 10.1 is regrettably broken on most systems. To correct this you should do the following after you have installed SUSE:
...
that confuses me. why did SuSe release a broken system? if 10.0 worked, why not roll back?

Because it's a community one. I believe that Novell's official releases are actually SLED and OpenSUSE 10.0. At least, as far as I can tell. Anyways, 10.0 is still available.

I think the devs just wanted to get out a release with lots of eye candy and stuff. Just to say, we've got XGL or whatever. Then probably didn't fix it out of laziness/technicall difficulty.

Okay... Some MAJOR graphics problems to Iron out. (and to think, I got the Nvidia GPU for it's suposidly superior Linux support)

Nvidia card here with 10.0, detected flawlessly, even a nice GUI to configure its options in YAST.

Oh, 1280 by 800 is resoulation on windows Side... For my own refrence...

EDIT: Trying system rescue from boot DVD...
