If you leave much cash out, it'll get sacked. You have to spend most of it buying troops. If you want to store for round end, stick the troops on the market at a high price, then pull them off at the end.
Yeah, attacks aren't really hostile, unless they're standards or for resources. Attacks for land are normal.
