Suggestion: images or animations
>>BUMP<<
This is still an interesting idea. How to solve bandwidth issues / space? Maybe off-site hosting?
It would be certainly beneficial to have a graphical theme. Take a look at the Vulpine Imperium - a very nice graphical theme, as well as a host of attractive text-based themes.
This goes along with the whole Newbie-friendliness paradigm that we need to focus on. The more visually attractive the game, the more ensaring it can become.

I don't think videos/animations are a good idea, who would actually watch the animation instead of attacking again or going to the build page or whatever?
Adding some images though would be a good idea. I've played many of these text based start/RPG type games, some have images some don't. The ones with images always feel more complete than the ones without, it also helps give the game more of an identity instead of just being an anonymous browser game.
The images should all have a common theme (ie Redwall characters (or non-copyrighted facimiles)), and each page should have an appropriate image. For example, a mouse with a sword for the attack screen, some rodents at some sort of market for the market and/or bazaar screen (although I think it'd be better to have different images for the market and the bazaar), maybe an image of a rodent's lair for the main screen, etc.

and maybe pics for the heroes too :*laughs*: and if ya can't find anything... just put in a book image, or a sword image... there's alot ya can do, and it doesn't have to be some complex thing... keep it simple, we don't need anything flash though, images will do just fine... (and as for bandwith... what slasher said *laughs*)

Slasher, thanks muchly for the offer.
The only real problem now is to actually find someone who has sufficient art skills. I know I'm hopeless.

hehe, and for any kooltext ya wanna make, try there! Just pick one, type in whatever ya want, control what the font/size is, click render image, and wellah! But after you render it, might wanna host it on photobucket or somewhat, cause it don't stay up too long...
Useful if it'll help spark the homepage a bit, eh?

Nah, that kind of thing always has a tacky feeling to me.
Animations can quite frequently be un-needed and tasteless. At the very least, we need a good set of static images before we even think of anything more advanced.

It seems to me that animations would tend to slow down the game. If you have an attack animation, you have to wait for it to play before you can attack again, even if it's short, 40 seconds, for example, I can run 4 - 8 attacks in that time, depending on browser speed. That means I'm looking at atleast a 4 fold increase in the time it takes me to make a run. Not good, considering I'm already short on time.
But simple images wouldn't be bad...
