In my opinion, the Hedgehog is underused (as are a lot of races). The Hedgehog is the only race that you can buy Mercs on the Market for cheap. And with the Hedgehog's +10% Income bonus, you can buy a lot of Mercs for less money than you would any other Race. I'm currently testing strats on the Hedgehog, so come back for more in-depth details.

For an Indy-er like me, Hedgehog is an awful race. However, I can see that it would be a very viable choice for a hawk-looter or a casher. The lack of any magic deficit enables a hawk-looter to get cheaper mercs and good defence without any penalty to their hawks. The good income boost and lower market buy price also allows a casher to amass a good-sized army.

I think Hedgehog is oft overlooked because of it's seemingly insignificant deficits and bonuses. However, it is second best in hawks and best in mercs, making it the overall supreme for a hawk-loot strategy. You should be able to perform most leader missions on anybody close to your Networth, and have a good defensive bonus.
If you go down to the woods today, you better not go alone
It's a lovely day in the woods today, but safer to stay at home
