Wolf Bite's Journal

Strategies and active Q&A's concerning game mechanics should be done here. (Note: this is not a general "help how do I do..." type of forum. It is strictly for strategies and game mechanics)

There lies Wolf Bite's Journal, a list of all you needed to know about playing on RWL a year ago. Much of the advice there, if you actually can read through the whole thing, can be applied to FAF. However, you are warned that FAF IS different and that this information is slightly out of date.

This bit especially is interesting, and may or may not be applicable to FAF:
Most Used and Best

All other strategies start with this one.  Change your army management to 100% of one army, which will be your fighting army.  Scout 25 times, build mostly foragers and markets. You will want to get your food and money high for later.  Keep doing this until you have a good supply of resources.  After using more then half of your turns, start building barracks.  Keep with the 25 scout and then build until you about to come out of protection.  You will now have a large attacking army (and the resources to support them) that can break at least the bottom half of the players and as you use your turns and gain land.  With the gained land you could even take the top players.  Even if you plan to use a leader strategy, you will need the gain land and build loyalty.  It is very easy to switch from this strategy to any others.
Essentially, you come out of protection with less land than someone who scouts their first 300 turns, but you do end up more powerfull at the start. Now, it really depends on your strategy - if you are balancing hawks and indy with food and cash, this is by far the best. You start off with decent stockpiles and an army - all you really need.

For obvious reasons, this does not work with a hawk-looter as much as would be desirable.

Hey, thanks for posting the link.

Yes, it is very outdated, for both games. But the idea of thinking about how the game works is still a great value. A good player thinks beyound the game and that writing shows how it can be done.

Note that there has been over 500 hits on that site. It is still a good read!

And yes, that way of comming out of protection is still a very good way. Better to be strong and be able to win battles then look good when still in green. Even if you want to go into a leader strat, it is better to have power to get a lot land to turn into huts with your first turns then have a few empty huts and no power.

An interesting point is that, dislike Wolf Bite as much as I will, he has done much to herd the unruly bunch at RWL into a more respectable community. Iron fist in a velvet glove you might say.

Actually this has already been posted under Strategies 102, but I think this title is better anyways.

It was posted before, but changed the toic name was changed, which made it a topic that would be unlikely looked at. I thank you guys for reposting it. I think there are well over 500 hits. Not bad for a partly outddated help file. hehe
