1. Firefox 1.0.4
2. Thunderbird 1.0.2
3. OpenOffice.org Writer (not sure version, whatever is newest.. Fedora makes sure of that for me ^_^) working on getting ms office to work.. (license/disk issues ;))
4. Small/Lite Editor - Gedit (Gnome's editor)..
5. Programming - Gedit (:P) pretty font, + color.. works for me and my simple Java..
6. Music - XMMS (yay! Devari uses the same skin as I do.. I keep mine 'on top' and 'stuck' in collasped mode.. works well) I like Rhythmbox as well, but its heavier on the resources and xmms has a nicer collasped mode
7. File Manager - Nautilus (the XFCE filemanager is.. aqard for me..)
8. Terminal/Console - Gnome Terminal

(a few more)
website editor = NVU (not great, not bad)
IM = GAIM
Math = Maple 9.5 (wonderful people at maple gave me the linux version since I had previously purchased a windows version)
Image Manip = GIMP 2.2/ Photoshop 7 (yay, it works in linux.. /almost/ all filters, menus, everything is pretty.. but you cant use brushes.. you draw a sqiggle and it draws a strait line.. meh)) (Terragen, however, has a ways to go..)

on the panel I have: CPU monitor (the graph), wireless lan monitor, Weather, (then inorder: sound, ram, swapspace, battery monitor, and ofcourse the clock)

(ram is /never/ that high.. its almost always very low or not even on the graph.. not sure what I did to make it jump that high, but eh, I've gota gig of ram + gig of swap.. so it doesnt matter..)

edit: Go digup your screenshot Beatles!
hehe

edit2: one more special thing on my panel, forgot about it.. the green hdd icon, when I hover my mouse over it it displays how much space is left on my linux partitian, and launces nautilus when clicked.. nice feature..

One is root terminal, the other normal terminal.
Yeah, I used to use workspaces a lot, now I rather don't, really... dunno why.
By the way, check out the app 3dfb. It's a 3-D file manager, quite fun, but not useful as of yet. Find it at rpmfind.net.

Prt Scrn copies to clipboard. Paste into a graphics program - voila!

But I agree, Windows (ME especially) is stupid.

GEdit is my second choice to KWrite/KAte. I love the features of the K pair, but hate the fact that it is KDE - I dislike the longer loading times and sometime awkward performance of K Apps in non-KDE window managers. KWrite works well, thankfully.
Website Editor = KWrite/KAte/GEdit ;)
IM = GAIM
Image = GIMP 2.2

How about FTP? I have a serious lack of a good FTP client. I currently use (and dislike) gFTP.

Is Sound a XFCE plug-in? I can't see it on my list...

I should point out that for mail client I meant not webmail. If we are talking about GMail, I use Firefox all teh time. :D

Corban, I wanted everyone to fill it out. Don't worry about Terminal and File Manager. XP only has one of each, really.

Devari... run this as root:

code: Select all

urpmi.addmedia main ftp://raven.cslab.vt.edu/pub/linux/mandrakelinux/official/10.1/i586/media/main with media_info/hdlist.cz
urpmi.addmedia --update updates ftp://mirror.cs.wisc.edu/pub/mirrors/linux/Mandrakelinux/official/updates/10.1/main_updates with media_info/hdlist.cz
urpmi.addmedia contrib ftp://raven.cslab.vt.edu/pub/linux/mandrakelinux/official/10.1/i586/media/contrib with media_info/hdlist.cz
urpmi.addmedia plf-free ftp://ftp.easynet.fr/plf/mandrake/free/10.1 with hdlist.cz
urpmi.addmedia plf-nonfree ftp://ftp.easynet.fr/plf/mandrake/non-free/10.1 with hdlist.cz
urpmi.addmedia jpackage ftp://raven.cslab.vt.edu/pub/linux/mandrakelinux/official/10.1/i586/media/jpackage with media_info/hdlist.cz
urpmi.addmedia thac http://rpm.nyvalls.se/10.1/RPMS with hdlist.cz
urpmi.addmedia eslrahc http://www.eslrahc.com/10.1/ with hdlist.cz
Then, do

code: Select all

urpmi.update -a
Then do urpmq -y xfce to find all the plugins you need, just install them with urpmi <packagename>
To upgrade your system, after urpmi.update -a
urpmi --auto-select
will upgrade all your packages
Then you will see the Sound plugin. :)

XFCE Settings Manager:
No such plugin "sound".

Argh! That's for xfce-mixer, by the way.
