Okay. The scout spell is ineffective. Period. Newbies with good ratios use it for an extra boost. It becomes useless after five to ten mil of net. No good.

The solution to this in the traditional Prom is Eminent Domain. It is a wizard/leader/hawk spell which generates land according to net, at a positive, linear relationship. This makes the game interesting in some ways. It can but large net differences between the "mice and men" so to speak, or in Redwallian terms "the mice and badgers". Larger armies grow exponentially instead of linearly.

The question is, would that be a good thing?

My answer is yes. It would work for Exposition. Turbo is a maybe. Reg would be destroyed by it. Overall, though, it complements (correct spelling -- no editing or else) faster turn rates.

Or, we could brainstorm for something original.

What say you all?

Scout /is/ Eminent Domain, as implemented in Promisance 4.2, with minor modifications by us (decrease in cap value).

Minor?
Then why isn't there 100k land in each top ten person's account?

We changed EDCap from 5000 to 300. I suppose that's minor, from a coding point of view.

We worked on it a lot. Frankly, we didn't want too much EDing going on...

Yee...

ED seems to be rather evil. Would probably be too imbalancing to the game.

Bleh. I'd love to argue, but time is not helping.

Would you please put forth a suggestion backed up with an argument about ED? Or should we just lock this?

Er, there is a hawk mission to scout, just so you know. It becomes more efective the higher your networth.

Heh...

Read the last few posts by Zeph and Beatles. Hawk-Scout is ED. :D

They're talking about scout, not Hawk scout. But anyway, don't do anything to hawk scouting. I use that when I get a lot of land and don't have anyone I want to attack.

The scout that they are talking about is Hawk-Scout.

Trust me. (Wait, why would you trust someone like me?) :) :D :P

Yeah. But I didn't know that. I thought they were talking about regular scouting.

Well, I /think/ I can defend ED.

To begin, it's not bad. It's not unfair. Everyone has equal access to it. There is nothing which limits the use of it from one person to another (except for your leadership bonus, serves those otters and badgers right). ED will do nothing to unbalance the game. It will simply change it. Change is good, and even if, in itself, it wasn't, this change still is.

Raising the ED cap to allow more land benefits FaF. We are a small player base. So it's a rather miliatry based game. You see, land is scarce. No one can accrue too much. While that may make it difficult to gain the top by too much of a lead, it also makes gaining the top at all difficult. It also makes for a constant battle for what land is in the game. Very few can effectively use regular scout, and those that can are pounced upon by the entire upper ranks, forced to never leave a vicious cycle of scouting and losing land, eventually quitting. If the upper ranks could get more land in other ways, however, that's what they would do. Attacking the newer players comes at a 3% loss. It's worthwhile in the current setup, but ED would make it a bad idea, and for the newbies, it would be a good thing.

So, despite what I've left out, the benefits of ED are (and the above paragraph forgot a few):

1. Newbie-friendliness
2. Ability to gain rank without atacking much
3. Ability for upper ranks to continue to grow
4. More visible difference between players of differnt skill levels

Okay, so not for regular. It would so mess up CoG. The turn rate is slow enough for someone to use this to lodge themselves irrevocably in the emp spot.

However, on the faster servers, BfR perhaps and definitely Duels and Exhibition, it would work.
Back. I think.
