Mactalon, Laird of the Skies. With him, you are better at hawk missions.
Specifically, you need a 25% lower ratio to succeed.
Does this count for defense and offense or just offense. Also does this affect loot, forage, and magic scout?
Martin the Warrior, the Avenging Spirit. With him, the more you are attacked, the better shall be your offense.
Specifically, (recent_attacks / 20)% better.
Define recent attacks.

Thanks.

To your first question:
I believe it is for both your offense and defense when it comes to hawks. I don't know if it will affect your utility missions.

Second:
I believe that attacks with an army and hawks apply. Not sure about the hawks.

I was more looking into what constituted as recent. Attacks in last day, last week, total attacks etc...

Whenever you are attacked, your number of recent attacks goes up 1. Every hour, it goes down by 1. If it exceeds 20, you get that 'too many recent attacks' message. There are some details, such as it goes down 2 in some cirumstances or whatnot; see Wolf Bite's Journal for details.

Everything under war page minus espy is offensive, regardless of success.
Martin only works with troops as far as I remember. Not sure.
I don't think Mactalon defends. That'd be overpowered.
Back. I think.

Just checked the journal. Every hour it goes down 1, every attack you make it goes down 2. 21 attacks or above and you can't be hit except by declare war or clan war.

OK so Martin actually works off of your hit limit then. Got it.

What about Mactalon, we've heard one say yes on defense one person say no and nobodys sure on loot or forage.

Okay.

Indy:

Def over Off hero, usually. You can easily raise troops to break, then remove them again. It's much more difficult to keep guards, troops to defend.
Hawk attack is obviously out.
Runes is out.
Peasant hero would work if you're more than 20% tents. But, I doubt that's common.
Food hero otherwise and usually.
Martin is temperamental. His strength varies too much, runs out. And when you are maxed, you should probably be needing more than 10 attacks. Not recommended.
Brome is very popular. It's a war game after all. I leave the logic up to you.
Perigord only if you need him, but with planning and reserves, most strats shouldn't.

The most common for indy is def-farm-heal.
Off-farm-heal for otters is good.
Tent instead of farm only if your strategy revolves around it.
Def-farm-heal works with mostly agrarian as well.
Desertion over heal if you aren't too agressive and enjoy being able to go negative, but that's not been seen in a while.

Hawk:

Def is arguable. You want to lose land for a large part of the round, after all. Do you use hawk attack, murder, poison often? Hawk if so, since hawks are more difficult to get than troops. Off otherwise.
Runes. Doubt there's much else to pick.
If you get pummeled, desertion is nice.
But hawk missions drain health, too, so heal is still useful.

Pick, usually: heal
Avoid, usually: retal, tent
Strategy-specific: farm, def, off, rune, (tent, possibly)
Back. I think.
