FWF suggested this elsewhere, and I think it'd be a great idea to have an Target Online Notification Box. What it woud do, is that if a target was online, or came online during an F5 refesh run, a box would pop saying

code: Select all

"Target is Online"
       Warband X is online.
Do you really want to hit them?
If you said ok, it would not bug you until you stopped attacking that person for, say, a period of 60 seconds, or quit using F5 to refresh. If you resumed after that, it would pop up again. This would help prevent accidental onlines. This would also prevent people from claiming it was an accident if it really wasn't. As a sidenot, it'd have to be different enough from the box you normally get when you refesh, so people don't fail to relize what it is.

I think this onlining thing is being blown way out of proportion. There's only been one complaint in the last couple of months and now it's a hot topic all of a sudden. Most of the time, onlining is accidental, and you can be forgiven. If you purposefully attack someone online, you know that you have something coming for ya and you take it like a man.
It ain't about how hard ya hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done!

That would be a too obnoxious way of notifying the player of something which is game etiquette and not game policy, that is, as of now.

A more moderate warning (yellow /text/, not a popup dialog) might be suitable, but nothing that would pressure the user.

Japan, yes, but accidental onlines are still anoying, and it'd be nice to be able to avoid them. It's been more then one incident, from more then one person.

So, maybe something like the "Your troops are deserting, because the person is too high/low"? "This person is online"? That would be better, I guess. This would be a rather obnoxious...

Yea, I know accidental ones happen, but usually it's no big deal. I like the yellow text idea. To prevent accidental ones.

Isn't yellow text for disabled empires? And like Japan said, isn't this onlining blown out of proportion? We can't help it if someone A.) Is using F5 and can't tell if someone is online, B.) Just doesn't realize it until a few attacks later, or C.) Just doesn't care. And if their option is "C" then no popup will stop them.

True. I guess it's not much of a problem. Beatles, you can lock this if you want.

I'm not, yet. I still think it's a good idea.

Urran: no, yellow is also used for all warning messages in-game.

A gentle and unobtrusive notification at most.
