And I believe the south was selling its good's (cotton) to England where they were being manufactured and wouldn’t sell to the North as they couldn’t offer as much cash. I was always under the impression that there was a major conflict between northern manufacturing and Europe and the south was supplying the good to England.Kraken wrote:1/ The south had Textile plants and various other industries that the north relied upon. being poorer in general than the south (save a few "barons" here and there) when the South removed itself and declared independence, the North did not like this one bit. There was money in the South that the North needed and desired.Gen. Volkov
I have a friend who is a history major, I have studied the Civil War quite a bit myself, and I am in college, currently taking a 200 level history course.
2/ Slavery DID exist in the North. There were lynch mobbings in New York and the like all the time. the mid west and and North west also had slaves.
This on top of the religious aspects lead to much hard feelings and a war,,

Just because you believe it doesn't make it true. Where were you always under the impression that there was a major conflict between northern manufacturing and Europe and the south was supplying the good to England? Not many people express themselves that way.And I believe the south was selling its good's (cotton) to England where they were being manufactured and wouldn’t sell to the North as they couldn’t offer as much cash. Are you kidding me? We've beaten up on Britan in one war, fought them to a standstill (and then beat up on them on their way out) in a second, and bailed them out in two later wars.gondor wrote: no way *laughs* britan sayles across and kickes all your butts *laughs*
Anyone who thinks Britan beats America is antisocial.

The war of 1812 is what I'm referring to as "Fought them to a standstill". They did some dammage to us, certainly. We did some dammage to them. In the end, they relized they couldn't push us around, and we realized we weren't going from colony to superpower in 40 years, and we both decided that we'd be better off talking it out, so we did.
The battle of New Orleans is what I mean by beating them up on the way out. We did. They lost around 2000 killed or wounded. If I recall correctly, our total causulty count was 13, killed or wounded.
The two wars I refer to us bailing them out were World Wars I and II, though we didn't really bail them out in I. But we helped, considerably. They probably wouldn't have won, at least not for years, if he hadn't helped. As for II, they most certainly wouldn't have won without US supplies and troops. Hitler would have kept all the rest of Europe & non-Europian Russia, even if he because Japan could have helped against the Russians, keeping them from driving him back.
Philip, be antisocial enough to stay out of this discussion, please.

Canada is going to take over the world with her Mounties!
I personally like Canada since it produces a lot of good looking women *nods*
But the USA is still the best of the best.
