No, it was just all the micromanagement in the later half or so of the game that slowed things up. That, and the length of time the AI turns took. They say they've fixed both.

But it won't run as well as it should, no. That's why I'm looking at paying $80 bucks for a 256 stick of memory, since the thing is so old memory is getting scarce. We got this thing about 4 years ago...

Meh, probably next year will be the earliest I can get a job, so I can pay a part of the cost of DSL, since my Dad's too cheap to pay the whole cost... But that'd certainly be fun, to do multplayer. Multiplayer sounds like it'll be really good, with the pitboss thing you can save your games on, and all.

That's good. Mine slowed down a good bit between turns late in games and especially on huge maps.

"The Minimum System Requirements for the game are: 1 GHz CPU,
256MB RAM, and a 32MB video card with hardware transform and lighting capabilities. The recommended Specifications are: 512MB of ram, Pentium4 processor, and a recent graphics card (like the Radeon 9800)."

Eh, kinda hefty. But you will be processing a LOT of information. I'm sure you could run on a little less than the minumum system requirements if you absolutely need to play the game. Just hope that your video card is compatible and that you'll be able to adjust the graphics settings in this one.

Yeah, grafics cards are what's going to get me, if anything does... I just hope I don't have to spring for a whole new desktop for us. I'd but a laptop, but nowhere near enough money of a good one, and I'm not waiting until I sometime next summer/fall to play... no, sir!

We have more memory then the minimum, but less then the max. You know of any place I can get cheap PC - 133 memory and a good grafics card for less then $100 bucks? I mean, honk, you can get a cheap desktop for 2 - 3 hundred, good for 4 - 500. I'm not paying $200 for a stinking grafics card...

I have the NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200. Look on Froogle or another search engine, even eBay if you want. You could probably find one for under 40 bucks. It's not too new or powerful, but definately a good buy considering I haven't found a game that I can't run with it. Half-Life 2, Doom 3, no problem.

Here's another good deal I found: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130197

Ok, thanks, Nohc. I think I'll wait on the grafics card until I see how it works on our current one. It's not too old, actually. It runs a few games I have that have 3-D, (I think...) and I don't think Civ will be too intensive as far as grafics.

ATI's for uneducated girly-men who give real techies a bad name! Buy NVIDIA!

Edit: Well, we've kind-of gotten off topic here. Oh well. 2 weeks!

What would you recamend for a cheap-but-still-good grafics card, Devari? I don't have a whole lot of cash sitting around, and I don't really want to spend $200 on a video card, even if I did... $50 is about the top of my price range, I mean, it's pretty bad when I have to spend more money for the hardeware to play the game the the game itself...

Oh yeah I completely forgot about this. Argh. Well, we can have one in early November, I suppose.

I can't run AOE3 on my computer, even if the game did run on Linux. My Celeron doesn't meet the 1.4 GHz level...

I resent that! :P

I downloaded the demo for it a while ago. They made some pretty cool changes. I'd get it if I wasn't a hardcore Civ fan and had the money. Though I've never been that good at most RTS games. I can't do things fast enough. XD
