Just a day after each other:

Maybe I'll just settle in England once I get a degree. Hungarians have full rights -- as EU members -- to live in England (but, for example, Americans or Canadians don't), and I hear it's a jolly nice country...

ah...to vote!

The Kraken, which is found primarily in Scandinavian myth, was a huge sea creature. It was said to lie at the bottom of the sea for a long time and then it would rest at the surface....Like the Midgard serpent in the Norse myths, the Kraken was supposed to rise to the surface at the end of the world.
~Beatles..."I'm sorry, but I really can't see anything redeeming in your philosophy other than that dinosaurs are cute."

Beatles is originally from Hungary, and by the sounds of it still retains Hungarian citizenship.
You can always come to Canada.
Although, if Bill C-60[1] passes...

easier to read artical than your first link beatles
and I believe it quotes the guy in your link
"1. You can "accept a contract" by changing the channel. If you change the channel from 3 to 4, and the show on channel 4 has a signal that says it can't be recorded, then by watching channel 4, you're "making an agreement" to waive your time-shifting right in exchange for the show."
gawd
banning recording of LIVE tv? is this really what they're after? in all seriousness?
and who owns MPEG format? surely not hollywood
I think they're going wayy too far in trying to prevent piracy..
sony actually scewing with window's kernel though.. dont think microsoft will be too pleased.. but yet... donno, maybe they like it..
wonder what happens in linux.. given the cd will play fine in a regular cd player, I'm thinking no issues...
edit: and no copies off somthing you BUY is bs
I'm rough as heck with my stuff.. CDs dont last long if I'm not careful.. 's why I make backups.. illegal to sell backups I can see, but illegal to make backups?
*shrugs*

I believe they will soon not be able to play on Linux.

They not doing a very good job of dissuading me from piracy. I am less likely to aquire CD's legally since they started this whole anti-piracy nonsense than I was before. I used to buy a fair amount of CDs, now I buy very few CDs. Any songs I like I download. They turned me off when they started suing their customers.
I know the voices in my head arn't real but they usually have some pretty good ideas.

Nuke: agreed.
Windy: they play fine on Linux.
Devari: that is worrying!
Kraken: I'm originally from Hungary... and btw, I still think the U.S. society is far better than that of almost all European countries. However, I had a favorable initial impression of England specifically, so I would like to check it out once.
Devari: Canada -- I'm sure it's a good alternative, but I don't know too much about it; heck, I know more about England than Canada; besides, more under the influence of major corporations in the U.S.

Hey, we all know the DMCA is stupid... Just be thankful that the two devils of Utah (Hatch and McBride) havn't been talking to each other
.
Bahhh... I'd rather pay the Reno Philharmonic $8 (student rate), or drop by http://magnatune.com/ than see more than a pittance go to the music industry. Or, to make music an interactive experiance, I could just rosin up the bow... I just hope that DRM says well, digital. I mean, so long as there are speakers, so long as people know how to transcribe music, then there is going to be no perfect DRM.
As a side note, memo to the entertainment industry: Quit worrying about what is not a threat to your livelyhood. Compaired to what is comeing out of the burners in the third world, your "losses" to the internet are a pttance.

Thanks for the link, windy.
You know, I kind of hope someone writes a fast-spreading worm for this, maybe even via AIM or something. If a lot of people get burned for buying a Sony copy-protected CD, there would be a big backlash. Plus most people would be very wary of buying such a CD ever again...

its kinda silly
the simplicity of it
apparently it hides the application if it has $sys$ in its name
in this case it was to prevent the WOW security sweeper from finding their cheats
methinks Blizzard (makers of WOW) are harboring ill feelings towards sony, as their massive game has now become even harder to control and enforce rules on
but yeah.. if game hacks can be implemented, it wont be long before aim bots are released..
would it be possible for viruses to use the same method? 'cause that could be hell for windows users..
Sony could have bitten off more than they can chew with this form of copy protection..
