Neo had them at -5 and -5, so I'm sure he will volunteer an opinion.
Oh yes, please read the instructions -- the blue coumns MUST be zero! Yours put the Persians and the Macedons at great advantage.
OK, new version out. I editorialized Etruscans a bit so we have a race that can do well on the market-selling strat, but all you history gurus please feel free to change it if you want.
Multi-ethnic empire means lack of coordination and many unorganized//untested troop types and whatnot. Their logistics would have been horrid, and at no point in history do you find alist of persian military heores or geniuses.

When the gauls raided all the way southeast to Gallicia in the second century BC, it is said that Soter's 12 Elephants scared off an army of 500,000 Gallicans who had never seen the huge beasts... but this is waaaay out of range for us...
"Shame my army who, if the novelty of these 12 beasts had not struck our enemy with panic, where should they have been this day?"

Elephants existed in these time, but they were unique and easily defeatable in the face of an organized line of hoplati, not to mention they were still only used in india at this time...
Remember, the Persians and the Medes really didnt get on well with the Indians so those elephants were carefully guarded and rarely traded. (if my memory serves me)

No, it was based on the book "Alexander the great" by Paul Cartledge =-)

I try to stear clear of video game based knowledge... made that mistake once in a class and my teacher (who also played the game) busted my balls for it.
Some can be sort of correct, but most of it is embellished.

Makes me think we should scale down troop/spy production to a more realistic level.

Historical statistics can be embelished... especially by the Greeks and Romans... the Seleucid empire (which consisted of Anatolia and most of "Persia") was the largest of the kingdoms that broke off of Alexanders conquests.
Ive seen stats from 130k to 500k... but armies in these times never exceeded more than 750K and rarely did armies that large meet.
I think one of the largest engagements ive ever seen was a clash of 1.2 million somewhere outside the Seleucid city of Prusa... but this was a LONG time after where we are.
Also, you must remember that the most Spartans ever fielded in one battle was 9,000. So... armies werent uber large.

Some FAF army sizes potentially exceed the world population at the time!

Most battles in the Punic wars were fought with anything between 30,000-100,000 soldiers.
About scaling back -- yes, I've thought that several times in the past, and tried implementing something with hawks. It was always difficult but we could give it another shot.
Say we cut the production of Barracks by 80% (taking a guess since I can't pull up cPanel). Then 100,000 troops would be the equivalent of 10,000,000 troops at the current setting?
