First, the triviality: why April 2? 'Cos I don't want any association with April Fools' Day.

So that day I am going to be:
1. [s]Resetting BFR[/s]
2. [s]Imposing the new theme (with scaling) on both WOA* and BFR[/s]
3. [s]Releasing our code on SourceForge[/s] (I don't yet know with what version tag)
4. [s]Opening signups for Duels[/s] Round I-don't-recall-the-number, which will be managed by Devari & Ruddertail -- although they may play. (A non-playing admin can do arbitration once the game has actually started.)
5. [s]Giving some little surprise and gratification to some of you...[/s]

Complaints about the new theme may be piped to /dev/null, while constructive criticism catted to this topic.

* In the process slashing otters there.

Ooh... I might have a few ideas for the Duel's "theme" this time 'round. Must talk to Ruddertail... :D

By the way, how many people liked the SOVIET vs. TSAR round?

And maybe we should save version number 3.0 for a little while yet...?

i can only hope that if i do sign up for duels agian, i would be put on a more balanced team...and a team that actually tries at that!
all about FAVRE, come on...you know you want to click it

The Kraken, which is found primarily in Scandinavian myth, was a huge sea creature. It was said to lie at the bottom of the sea for a long time and then it would rest at the surface....Like the Midgard serpent in the Norse myths, the Kraken was supposed to rise to the surface at the end of the world.

Last time Devari didn't know who everyone was, so it was a bit difficult for him to make an educated decision on how to divy up the teams. Plus he hasn't played with everyone and has no idea how good everyone is. Since he did participate in the last one I'm sure he has a better idea of each persons capabilities and should be better able to make an informed decision.

Soviet/TSAR thing was definately cool, and I certainly liked the fact that it's something that isn't focused on in American schools so most of us have little idea about what happened. Makes it a bit more informative for all of us.

Unfortunately I still have no reliable net access and cannot be active enough to warrant a clan spot so I will have to pass one this go-round. Not really worth it for me to have an inactive empire serving as dead weight for my clan.
I know the voices in my head arn't real but they usually have some pretty good ideas.

Awwww Nuke... :(

Thanks for the compliment. I absolutely love World History, and the whole popular revolution, then bolshevik revolution, and then subsequent betrayal of Russia thing is so interesting.

Yeah, but even on paper things seemed rather equal. The main problem is that I didn't know who some people were, I underestimated certain people, and a lot of the good players I put on TSAR happened to be inactive. But, this time 'round, we have both Rudder and I to take care of things, and he knows the player strengths to a T. I probably won't be playing, so I can also act as the impartial admin thing.

Perhaps you could progress it foward a but and have the clans be based on Russian civil war era parties.

To a T? I didn't get that one.

Anyways, I am postponing the whole biznai until April 3, seein as how the 2nd is a Sunday and I have only dialup on that day, and unreliable at that.

As for Duels, any ideas yet Devari? The Russian civil war sounds boring to me, personally. Why not pick a conflict from history? Especially as we're going with the new theme. Make it Punic Wars or something.

Yeah, I was thinking something along the lines of a historical conflict. I certainly wouldn't do Russia again - I was just looking for feedback about the last duels I ran. ;)

Might be a crazy Canuck saying... Roughly, it means, "rather precisely".

Punic wars was Rome vrs. Carthage, right? That might be cool.

That, or something back in the days of Alexander?

Oh yeah, silly me. We don't have Rome. Yeah, pre-Alexander sounds better. We might even have a "coalition" of races, although that would be less practical as everyone would have to pick the right race.

Or... ooh! How about everyone just signs up and nominates a strat, then are assigned a team and race, with race based on which strat they want to run.

It'd take a lot of work, but it would be cool. And it would allow for the coalition of race thing.

Well, I don't know. How much work would it take?

Anyway, I'm just brainstorming, here...

More work than I need. I mean, on the conceptual side, it's also problematic.
