Just a quick shout out here - how would you feel about increasing the amount of land that Standard attacks are forced at to 750 or 1000 (for WOA only)?

The apparent benefits are twofold, as I see it:

1) Kills become (obviously) even more difficult
2) On a slower server such as WOA, it takes more time to recover from a pounding. This would reduce the scale of destruction possible before the attacker starts having a difficult time, thereby allowing for a greater possibility of recovery. Further, as this is more or less the newbie and casual server, it would lead to less likely of an empire getting totally ruined and the player leaving.

Thoughts please.

I'm thinking 2k land if you want it to have much effect. It'll take the same amount of attacks if you are able to kill someone, but will make them less vulnerable if you can't break with a standard.

Why dont you edit the code so that a player with less then 500 land is protected but cant buy army

Rillis - we considered that, but came to the conclusion that kills are a part of the game, even if a much discouraged and seldem used part.

Devari - it might help, in some cases. On the other hand, Freen had no troops, so he could have been broken in standards anyway. With a war situation, standards are the order of the day, so I don't see how this will affect that...

I'm not thinking about the current situation, I'm talking about the server in general. The WOA War is not what it is all about. :P

Another thought...If you guys ever develop a reserve system for storing troops, Then once that person being attacked is near the 500 line, all there troops get pulled out and defend them with like a defensive bonus. I had nearly a million spearmen just sitting out on the market. If some of them had been out...I maybe wouldn't have died.

That would be a good idea, I think. But no def bonus, why should someone get a def bonus because they're on low land? Just give them the regular troops...

But I can go without the bonus.

Grrrr... No, the standard thing already bodged up the whole idea of promisance. Kills are part of the game. People should just be asked to not kill unless absolutally (sp?) nececarry (sp?). I dont mean to be annoying or anything but I'm just expressing my opinion.

We have asked not to kill... but it happens anyway, and most of us don't like it. Anyway, if all promisance games were the same it'd be boring.

Kill are still a part of the game, it simpley makes them harder. Which is an important thing, considering the ease of kills on the FAF code. Supposedly, it's nowhere near this easy on some codes.

Further, standards don't make it much harder for a player to kill an equal or weaker player, but it does prevent a bunch of n00bs all massing mice from taking out somebody with 250k and $500 mil net.

It's not the code, it's the players. Therefore, we put things in the code to restrain the players.

Besides, it makes no sense to not have forced standards. When you get to that compacted of a level of land, there is no way you could selectively engage an opponent's army.

Not necessarily. Darklands mentioned that it seemed to be easier to kill with the FAF code then with a standard code, and with the heal option and heal spell, it's quite believable. People are able to do a whole lot more with the same amount of turns.

Especially when Brome was here, and if heros ever make a reappearance, and a heal hero is among them, even powered down, kills will be even easier.

So, you see, it is the code, to some extent.

True, the heal turn using option does help with that. The heal spell not so much, though. Brome was very unbalanced for that.

Heh, funnily enough, that just adds justification for reducing ease of killing.
