10.1 actually configures a non-3d version of the card by default, allowing you to proceed normally with NVIDIA installation. In 10.0, it is not done automatically. But, if you go to a tty virtual terminal (try alt-ctrl-F1), and input the following commands AS ROOT, it may just work:
init 3
sax2 -m 0=fbdev
init 5
I make no assurances this will work. I found the solution here: http://en.opensuse.org/HCL/Video_Cards#GeForce_7300_GS
Once you have it up and running, you can get the real NVIDIA drivers if you want 3d acceleration.

If it wasn't for the bloody package manager, I really would have suggested 10.1! The hardware support is even better than before, and I do think it is an overall improvement over 10.0. If you do end up deciding to try 10.1, let me know and I can tell you how to switch to a much better package manager.

W00T!!!!!!!11one! I'm In... I'm posting from the laptop via Firefox on the Linux side of things...
EDIT: Well... Almost. The resoulation is still wrong, and it doesn't show the correct one under the KDE control center when I attempt to change the resoulation.

How did you fix it?
Now, I guess you need to install the actual nvidia drivers. But that should be pretty easy.

As a side note, Freespire is actually free now! With CNR being subscription-less, I actually might try it out now - could be a good transition point for users from Windows to Linux. I wonder what default hardware support is like, especially for laptops...?
I still like SUSE, though, but it is nice to see Linspire become actually free.

And, Freespire does not use root by default like Linspire did. So, security issue begone!
It was nice to see the CEO of Linspire post on OSNEWS.

Hooray! I helped!
Are you sure NVIDIA does not support that yet? I thought they added the new card support by now...

Sorry for the triple post (laziness), but that does go over the process for i386 Suse 10.0 to install the official nvidia drivers. That is, if you had no idea where to start/were having trouble before.

Fedora isn't quite a Red Hat splitoff - in fact, Red Hat was harmonized with FC3 and will be again with FC6, as far as I know.

And, who knows, Linspire may be a good distro after all... I never touched it because of the subscription package manager, so I don't know!
