NEW MAIL! always NEW MAIL!

As bugs and suggestions are fixed/implemented/rejected, they will be moved in here.

I setup a beta game and the messages now are always new mail! even if you read them. We had the same thing happen before but strangely the problem is not in the live games. There has been no modifications to the mail or messaing system at all. Even copying the message.php and template files from the live game do not seem to fix the problem. What the heck could be causing this?

Also, have you tried with and without cookies?

Same results in Firefox and IE. Cookies didn't seem to matter either. Not a huge deal since it is just a test game, but it makes me wonder why its happening.

Is the database locked?

No database is open and the game is running fine. If you delete the messages the NEW MAIL! goes away like it should, it just when they are viewed and read that they remain marked as NEW MAIL!

Its got me stumped.

You don't suppose that it could be some sort of template caching issue like we had with the menus do you? Thats about all I could think of.

Since we changed servers last night this problem is now in the live games. Why would simply moving the files and database from one server to the other cause this. There were no program changes.

I honestly can't remember - does mail have a cookie component? Perhaps the domain change messes that up?

The message system uses javascript to cache and read messages. This problem was caused by taking a pre-setup game on a domain and moving it to a different URL. That also explains why when we copied the main game to a /beta/ subdirectory we had the same problem. Changing the URL of an already setup game causes the message system to not be able set the status of the cached read messages.

Thanks again goes to Mr. Beatles for figuring out the problem.

I think due to our server move. Not precisely sure though, sadly.

Yes, but I don't know /specifically/ why for sure.

I could not find the exact section of code that would cause such a thing, but then again my javascript skills are pretty limited.

I thought from reading that, it was because the game has a new URL. Anyways, I'll leave it to y'all to get it sorted out.
