Hello All,

Thanks for your patience in the last few days, and thank you to those FAF staffers who helped out and/or contacted me during the time our forums were down.

It seems that our host was infected with a virus that infected several hundred websites (and thousands more at other companies) in a co-ordinated attack. They inserted code that would install virii on any users using either Internet Explorer or Java on Windows (even Firefox users).

In case you have been infected, please download and run Spybot: Search & Destroy and a virus scanner (ClamWin is Free Software) immediately.

I apologize for the inconvenience this has all caused.

On a more technical note, Invision Power Board also has a bunch of unpatched vulnerabilities that could also lead to this sort of thing. Thus I will be patching that up by the end of this week -- my hand has been forced. I'll let you all know when that is done so you can rest easy about such issues in the future.

Yay! Finally..... I was wondering what happened...... I must say my web host's forums main files got deleted somehow but they got sorted aswell... One of my IRCd host seems to be playing up a bit aswell so when I saw the message on the forums page I knew something was seriously up. However everythings sorted now and its good to see FAF forums back.

I got whacked pretty good. 3 Trojans and a bit of Adware. I wasn't happy, but the everything worked just fine in removing it. I'm still looking into where my hole was. I use FF too... Oddness.

As Beatles said, it got in through Java. No real defence against that, if it is turned on by default...

I have it switched off by default, if only because the silly thing takes an hour to load up. The Uni's virus scanner caught it, by the by.

In FF, go to Options -> Web Features and uncheck "Use Java" to switch it off.
