Well all you experts with ubuntu/other distros may be able to help me out here. I have had to reinstall ubuntu about 4 times now due to messing stuff up following different guides :(

I was just wondering if anyone has any idea how (or of a guide that works) to install the ATi drivers onto Ubuntu?

Any help would be appreciated as I am getting annoyed at ATi and I don't think I will be getting an acer ferrari laptop anytime soon due to the fact that they use ATi as well and ATi drivers are a complete pain in the butt to install.

I have rarely had a problem with the ati mobility radeon 9600 in my thinkpad
its a bit of a pain to setup, but once its running is fine

I hate to say it, but google is your friend. I found everything I needed via google. the most important thing in my case was turning off composite in xorg.conf
my T-42 has a rather large linux userbase so documentation wasnt that hard to come by, I'm not sure in your case

everytime you go to do somthin that would mess with your xorg.conf, just
sudo cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.backup
(please verifiy path to xorg.conf, I forget what it is and I'm pretty sure thats wrong)
but if you screw up, instead of reinstalling the whole os you just
rm -rf /etc/X11/xorg.conf
cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf.backup /etc/X11/xorg.conf
(again, verify path to xorg.conf)

generally nvidia is more linux friendly, but not always.

Hmm... I never noticed that, surprisingly, I already have beryl installed... I will uninstall it sometime and try the auto script... (I did backup the xorg.conf each time but everytime i restored it KVirc wouldn't work which is a pain in the butt)

However I wont be trying it today, guarenteed I will bust it all as I'll be hammered all day :P :D
