Au contraire, losing to an apprentice is the greatest compliment a teacher could ever have.

The Kraken, which is found primarily in Scandinavian myth, was a huge sea creature. It was said to lie at the bottom of the sea for a long time and then it would rest at the surface....Like the Midgard serpent in the Norse myths, the Kraken was supposed to rise to the surface at the end of the world.

Advice? Well, there are a lot of things that people better qualified can tell you, but here is some advice I've always found to be useful: never forget your tea.

And apart from that, basically the same guidelines that apply to real life will help: use common sense, don't piss people off, keep reasonable and calm. Be a utilitarian: revenge in and of itself is wasteful. Go for the targets that yield the most land or resources for the least loss, and are least likely to retaliate. That is, unless you need to make a point, and then only if your point will help your in-game situation long-term. Dishonorable behavior will generally come back to bite you in the end.
