I just recently discovered that there is a futures market for the 2008 US presidential elections. Now I'm going to go back and look at some close elections in the past (probably American and French) to see how the market predicted those. Of course, this is probably going to be swinging a lot for the next year and a half, but still interesting. The bit about the candidates on that page is at "2008 US Presidential Election - Winning Individual (See Specific Rules)".

[edit] Less detailed (only parties), but from an organization with a very good record:

Can we buy those? If so, how does that work?
Back. I think.

I think it's closer than they think it is. The Dems have some major flaws and I have faith in Rove's ability to trash any candidate in no time.

Ode to A Pineapple

Dusty roadside
Throngs of people passing by

I sit content
Voraciously consuming
This Cadbury milk chocolate bar with raisins

I rest in this blue fiat
Broke down with one tire gone flat
Yet I’m quite happy
On this Tuesday afternoon

And just ahead
Men chew on their sugarcane

And babies rest in comfort
Slung across the sturdy backs of their mothers

Secured by bright chitenges
Elephants, zebras, oranges and blues
The deepest of hues

Men walk by, making attempts to chat
In sheer wonder of my flat
Wearing green suits
That read “Pest Control

But I sit content
Knowing the I’ve spent
My money on this chocolate candy bar
That’s now halfway devoured

And a man approaches me from a distant stand
Two pineapples in hand
Vibrant greens with a caramel body
Their sweet smells delighting my senses

No for now, Mr. Pineapple Man
And I carry on
Eating the Cadbury bar, enjoying the raisins
Enthralled by the crowds

So he walks away, the pineapple man

And the bustling market
Rages on
This man selling sea foam green trousers
That one selling fluorescent orange soap
Yet another one selling boxed perfumes

I’m still lost in my world of chocolate
Enjoying the moment

And the pineapple man
Approaches again

This time,
Willing to cut me a deal
That I now simply must seal --
40 kwachas for one pineapple

With my pineapple in hand
I feel lucky to be in this land
The land of Malawi

With bustling markets
People of colors so vibrant
Smiles so true
Plates of sima, curry and greens
Beats so light and free

And 40-kwacha pineapples!

written by not me.

The Kraken, which is found primarily in Scandinavian myth, was a huge sea creature. It was said to lie at the bottom of the sea for a long time and then it would rest at the surface....Like the Midgard serpent in the Norse myths, the Kraken was supposed to rise to the surface at the end of the world.

The existence of Cadbury in the market is a testament either to truly warped British palates or very good marketing. It cannot stand on its merits, only next to other crap like Hershey. Trust Anglo-Saxons for your government or legal systems; outsource your cuisine to the Continent.

Because I grew up on Swiss or Austrian chocolates. I cannot stand the taste of either Hershey's or Cadbury's, they're... horrible. :P

I'm sure you can. Nestle or Milka are dirt cheap in Hungary, but then again Switzerland is close; you might have to pay extra because of the shipping and the perceived premium value here. Trader Joe's usually has standard foreign fare (rather than the glamourous fake foreign stuff in most supermarkets), so I'd try that first. Nestle or Milka are the basic cheap brands, then there are of course high-end truffles and stuff, Linz is well-known for instance. There's also French stuff, best avoid that too. Personally, I prefer the cheaper two because of the milk content; Linz tends to be darker. I think they're both Swiss and I know Nestle has a US presence, Milka might not. (Have you ever seen a purple cow ad? That's the Milka ad.)

Do you really think they are gonna make all that chocolate in 1 factory?

Not all of the plants are moving but some are, and it was announced the day after Valentines day this year.
