I got a new computer. This is my frist computer that is actually mine.
The last one was my familys computer but I was the only one using it. Then I moved to New Zealand and had no computer and had to use my room mates computer.

Its a lenovo 3000 N100.
Prosesser: Core 2 Duo 1.83ghz
Ram: 2GB
HD: 120GB
Graphics: 128MB nVidia Geforce FX Go7300
Built in Web cam

It runs well. But it is still a slave to Vista. I need to fix that and Install Ubuntu.
So I finally can use the computer whenever instad of having to wait forever for my room mate to get off his. :D

somone should probably tell them they put the CD in upsidedown though

And so you havnt fallen for the shineyness of vista?
shame. probably best to dual boot though, not sure if you were planning to or not. 's always good to have a windows partition around just incase

Shame? Vista's probably not very good for the computer, given what a resource hog it is and with the quality testing of a pre-alpha release...

But as windy says, best keep it around as dual-boot for emergencies. Until you're quite sure you don't need it and that might take a year or two (if at all).

Yes I am planing to duel boot.
I have vista. I am using the classic theme as it works much faster. The areo theme looks nice but is hard to see stuff and eats system resources.
I want to get XP installed for my Windows partition because it is much smaller, and boots in a mush shorter amount of time. Skype for Linux does not support video calling yet. Also for gaming.

I am planing on Having XP, Ubuntu and one or two other partitions for testing out other distros. Any good distros recommended to try?

OpenSUSE is always nice to try. Pick what you like. Windy would recommend Fedora, I guess. This is not to disparage Ubuntu, of course. Apart from distros, look at desktops: try KDE once. It's worth trying both KDE and Gnome once, but Ubuntu and Fedora come with Gnome by default. Of course, you can install KDE in Ubuntu as well.

<3 Fedora
And actually Fedora comes with both KDE and Gnome by default, it has two versions of the LiveCD installer depending on which you prefer. The DVD install comes with both... but if you just click 'ok' all the way through I do believe it'll give you Gnome by default.
Same with Ubuntu, as it has Kubuntu (which I dont really recommend, they keep tweaking things and it seems to break more often than a regular KDE install.. havnt tried the newest though, so it may be better)

I like Gnome better too. I cant get over some of the KDE UI things, and Kicker is evil. Konqueror is nice however

'said it was a shame he didnt like Vista because noone seems to like it, and it would be nice if poor Vista had some friends

Poor Vista would have some friends if Vista played nice, but it try to take all of my poor computers system resources. :( (Also if Vista cost less)
