Free processor upgrade FTW!
just need to swap the heatsinks so they fit properly...
but I'm going to watch them for a while first. I think I didnt seat one properly, as at first Blackbird said one was dead then claimed it was overheating... which is rather odd. Tried again and she seems to be fine.
I've come to the conclusion my server is too smart for her own good... Its rather interesting to watch her readout lightup like a christmas tree...

Best thing is that most of these correspond to another light beside whatever componant it thinks has failed. I've got 4 sticks of ram and it correctly selected the 'bad' stick; Same for the processor, it told me which one it had a problem with. Wish more machines had this.

I almost had a duel PIII 1 gzh. I just could never quite get all the stuff needed to put the thing together. I finally junked the mobo. I suppose at some point I'll hunt down a nice used server box like that.

I'm trying to decide how much boost I've gotten from the 200mhz addition to both processors
The box feel a little peppier... but it'll be much quicker when I get her 'new' harddrives installed

Found a guy who was dumping some old computer equipment for cheap, among it 6 18.4Gb u160 scsi drives. http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y150/windhound/hdd.jpg
you dont see many of those around... and two of Blackbird's drives have given up so I had disabled my main drive raid. So now I can rebuild the raid and get off this 10 gig drive I salvaged from an xbox.
Guy asked what system I had and I told him an older IBM server, twin 667... and he gave me the two 864's pulled from an old Dell poweredge

For what I use computers for, old hardware suits me fine. And parts are cheap or free if you can find them. Dual cpu's make a rather large difference too...

Like 2x512mb of DDR2-3200. Then the board will run in Dual channel mode?
