Why does volkov have the shield icon when arthus has double the defenses?

No, not really.

Defensive Actions: 500 (16%)

You defend 16% of the time. Just basic math tells me that you have atleast 55 times. So, with defense Exp, 55*6 (330ish?) is a lot, compared too 435*2.

You -are- the leader. xD

I thought defense was simply the number of defenses you had. What is this exp thing?

Oh, I thought it was just most defenses, period, not best defender.

Ah, yeah, there was some brief discussion on how to represent the best offenses and defenses -- and, of course, it can always be changed if a preferred method is expressed.

At the moment (also explained here), the icons for "Most Offenses" and "Most Defenses" are placed on the country with the most successful offenses and the most successful defenses, respectively.

So calculation for the country currently possessing the label "Most Defenses" is: 681*.14 = 93-98 successful defenses. In actuality, a query runs to find the user with the most successful defenses (the value itself is stored in the database), but the results are obviously identical. Of course, if there are two countries with an identical number of successful defenses, the quirky randomness of whoever shows up in the query first further determines who gets the all-too-transient icon.

Well that's foolish - let's add a bonus to them.. maybe 10% less losses when attacking and defending or a % OP/DP bonus

No, think of them as a sort of badge, badge of honour if you will, or military decoration. They're not meant to confer an advantage in the sense of "Lvl +37 defender".

Well people were complaining that I was holding the land so I left myself open all the time, in return I was hit to like 6k land everyday while others kept all there troops on and held the land on occasions. So i'm going back to not caring anymore.

I never massed on the top two troops so I was always weak in them. The only person who hogged the land was probably Boatbutt but someone usually managed to break him anyway.

Slasher, there were probably 5 days out of the set that I didn't leave some sort of a weak troop. Most of the time I was totally open in slingers.
