You are just as starved for land as they are, the difference is that you are there willingly. They should still be able to fight back effectively, or they could if they used teamwork. They might have left it too late though.

You may want to consider making it harder for mages to do this. I would have had emperorship within 4 runs if Arthus hadn't sped it up by murdering japan. It only took 3 instead.
