The Onion had it all right in 2001:

http://web.archive.org/web/200101232300 ... tmare.html

This is one of their articles, pulled by archive.org. What's inaccurate? Oh, that's right, two wars, not one. The level of detail is astounding.

That was stupid. I mean, I know it's satirical, but it just annoyed me on a fundamental level.

^^ Really? Normally the Onion makes a point to be off. The fact that they nailed it really says a lot. Did they mean it? Or did Bush just completely have that kind of tone from the beginning?

if this is the end of prosperity then lets just have a good ole peasant uprising

in one of his speeches he praised the people of the great country of Alaska.....?

What????

doesn't he mean the great state of Alaska, as this frozen place has been a state for some 40+ years

as we all know each and evewy signal 5th grader out here, is Alaska became a state on January 3, 1959, as the 49th state Alaska is more than 1/3 the size of the whole of the contingent united states, and produces 5 times the oil Texas recorded below its soils.
If you took all the coastlines from the lower contingent states, you would not be able to equal that of Alaska's billions of beaches.
Minnesota boasts to have 10,000 lakes, Alaska has an untold count, some where in the trillions.

But yes
I would have to agree he isn't that smart is he....:)

No, it wasn't true. Not completely.

Here's the thing, normally I find the Onion hilarious, even when their political opinions disagree with my own, but that particular article went beyond just humor and into completely partisan bashing. I don't care if it's true or not, the fact that a parody newspaper wrote an article like that just strikes me as stupid.

Maybe they just foresaw it accurately. Not many people foresaw what Reagan's America would become. That didn't make them less right, even though they sounded more extreme then. Could you have imagined 7 years ago what Bush would do? Apparently, they may have.

Haha try 3 million lakes in Alaska... still impressive though. I know Minnesota has over 15,000 which is second best.
It ain't about how hard ya hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done!

Once again, I don't care about accuracy, which, by the way, is based on your viewpoint in certain matters in this case, because the president is hardly the only person affecting all the things mentioned in the article.

My point is that a parody/comedy newspaper has no business writing an article like that. Jokes that are only funny to specific people are not good jokes. This is why Bill Maher is only funny to certain people, while the Daily Show enjoys success among everyone. (Maher is on HBO now, if you're wondering why you've never seen him) Bill Maher writes his jokes for a certain audience, the Daily Show writes their jokes for the general audience, yet Jon Stewart is just as far to the left as Maher is, if not more so.

That's just a point of view. I find many jokes at the expense of Christians funny, for instance. I don't think the Onion article's appeal could only be funny to those holding certain political views. And this is subjective, so we will just have to agree to disagree again.

Here's another question, do you find George Carlin funny?

That's not what I said. I said that particular article was this way, not the Onion itself. I find most of the articles produced by the Onion very funny.

Yes, very much so. His jokes are fairly universal though, and the way they are delivered makes a big difference.
