I have -yet- to talk to Beatles about this and I'll get around to it. Beatles, please do not reverse this without talking to me.

I just removed 40 topics out of TODO from a non registered member posting icky junk. And a few in GD. As of right now, I am closing forum registration and am adding a new forum in GD called Registration. If you are a new member to the forum and wish to join, please make an intelligible post in there.

I know this sounds extreme, but there isn't much to do...

Actually, I'm going ot fiddle with some settings. Its not closed, but it might be tricky. Guests can still post in Registration forum. Which is NOW in the General Discussion/GD sections.

No, adbots are getting past the blockers and making accounts anyway, so he is closing regestrations to people who can't prove that they are human.

Most of the recent spam was unregistered guest postings.

Ah, so he shut down unregistered posting capabilities and made it impossible for non-human posters to register.

This has been changed though, so it doesn't matter anymore.

That would be essentially correct.

However guests can still post, just not links and they can't post in more forums. Also, signing up is a bit harder, but not really that hard.
