Not enough people. Even though round about 1.9 million people left, there are still some that stayed. I personally think that they're fools. But hey. I know online friends that have family that didn't evacuate in New Orleans. I just hope they don't die. :x But sometimes people need to die before change can happen. Its sad. As a up and coming Meteorologist, I don't want to see people die. But it seems that no one wants to listen. Good luck to them~

Not really. Katrina taught a lesson. People that didn't evacuate for Katrina forgot what a bad storm can do. It was still a mandatory evacuation on both accounts. And the evacuation went fairly smoothly. I fail to see how that will effect the election.

Some water did go over the wall, they need to make them a bit higher, and thicker. If the storm was any stronger the walls would have collapsed under the pressure. They were lucky.
As far as the preparation went, of course they did it well, they couldn't allow another Katrina, so they took every measure they could to prevent casualties, which was good. I also do not see how this will effect the election, they did there jobs for a change, go them...

The Kraken, which is found primarily in Scandinavian myth, was a huge sea creature. It was said to lie at the bottom of the sea for a long time and then it would rest at the surface....Like the Midgard serpent in the Norse myths, the Kraken was supposed to rise to the surface at the end of the world.

The reason it was named was to keep track of it. And because like you said, hurricanes happen. So its just an order. You remember Katrina better than the "Hurricane that hit New Orleans" better.

pah!
i know the reason Freen.
i think they should number them.
like, instead of Katrina, it could of been H1605.
besides, no one will ever let it go regardless of what the heck its called.
does anyone here remember Hurricane Hugo?
look that one up.

I do. I'm sure most people have a recollection of storms that were major. Can you recall the Tri-State tornado? Or perhaps Palm Sunday Outbreak? What about Andrew? Same prinical. I know you're not that old, but you've heard of them. And the names stick better than just random letters.
