all the pollsters say Palin blah blah blah and Obama blah blah blah.
they have totally ignored Biden and they have nothing on McCain other than his wifes money.

Great debate!

before the political pundints get out there and say blah blah won this blah blah won that, i will give my own opinion.

first! McCain looked old (like he always does) yet sharp on his answers and deep in his knowledge on how to deal with things. he was quick to defend himself and quicker to point out Obama's ... lies..
One thing that really got my attention is when Obama commented on his time in the Congress.
Obama is in the Senate. :P
Obama on the other hand found himself on the defensive alot more than McCain but did not do a bad job.
the man is just a natural speaker deluxe demigod from beyond.

but! his reluctance to admit his mistakes (Obama) which McCain kept pointing out i.e. the surge working, was great.

all in all, great debate!
they really took some great shots at each other.
but!
i also think that at the next debate, Obama will have his cannons loaded.

anyways!
viva USA !

I could equally say the same about Obama. He responded well to McCain's attacks and tightened his walls accordingly. McCain came out slashing and I'm not sure how the crowd really reacted to that.

Also, the Senate is part of Congress. So... I don't see the problem.

As for the next debate, I don't think so. Obama can only lose by attacking McCain. If he simply just gives good answers to every attack McCain fires, he'll look golden. However, he did sound a bit condescending, so he'll need to work on his tone.

yeah, your right Freen, the Senate is apart of Congress, just thought he should of specified!

anyways, dont think for a minute that Obama does not attack McCain!
he does it all the time on the campaign trail and did it quite well last night.

Well, Obama had more to lose by attacking McCain. It was very risky for him to come out swinging against him. Also, I really think Obama made a mistake by underestimating the emotion of the debate. McCain really showed a lot of passion in this. Obama was cool, but he didn't stay very collected.

Either way, I'd say if was a draw with McCain having a slight edge out lead. Otherwise I'm looking forward to round 2 and 3.

Now then, this famous post of Kraken's that I've been apparently ignoring.

You're absolutely correct on all those issues. You were citing them in response to that I said McCain flip-flopped about the economy.

I should have been more precise, there's a bit of a difference in what we said. What I said was that McCain said the economy was fine in the morning, but that it was fundamentally unsound in the afternoon. The policy changes you cite from Obama all occurred over a span of months or years.

I'm unhappy about some of them, such as nuclear energy.

Anyhow, where were we?

Between Palin being found guilty of abusing her powers, and the Keating Five bit being brought back, combined with Obama's double-digit lead, I'm not so worried about this election now.

Re-read that last post. The poster said that OBAMA had the lead, thus reducing the chance we get competent president. Oh, you were saying that Obama was more competent than McCain... I really can't help but think that Obama will make a Kennedy like mistake, like the bay of pigs or the Cuban missile crises that will take us far closer to a real war than we would ever would like to be. He appears weak on the world stage... And that's a bit of a problem. Though, I would suppose that in either case, we would have a better leader than we have at the moment.

The bar has been set rather low, you must admit.

Yet in all the election, to me it's McCain that comes across as weak, not Obama. It's McCain that has resorted to the ugliest mudslinging, while Obama needn't do anything but ignore it.

I think Obama would be a more co-operative president, less uncompromising than McCain, sure. But Bush has buggered up the international situation with his uncompromising attitude.

Fact: McCain can't talk worth junk on camera. That being said, he can't win a debate.

Other than that, I really think Obama has lowered the bar. Since he isn't amazing by any stretch of the imagination and he just says McCain is worse then him somehow.

I doubt you could lower the bar after Bush. ;)

Anyway, Obama has fairly standard Democrat policies on most issues, with a few large departures (national health and a form of national service).

From McCain I didn't see any real departure from the standard Republican party policies. I noticed that he has really been trailing Obama in this election; anything new in his policies and speeches (that is, anything that isn't the same as it was a year or two ago) is reaction to Obama's policies. For instance, the "we need change" thing and the healthcare thing, etc.
