Theme Shift?

You can talk about anything here, not necessarily game-related. You may also advertise here.

I suggest before we start talking about themes, lets talk about changing the game and then build a theme off that.

Now I propose we have two teams to do this.

One team can be in charge of determining the way the new economic system will function. I don't think there is a clear kind of system we want to do yet, but we can figure out what resources will be produced/consumed, figuring out how resources can be traded with other emps, and things like that.

The other team can be in charge of determining how all things warfare and diplomacy will work. This includes attacking, the risks/possible losses attacking will have will have, making alliances/declaring war and the like.

After these decisions are made we can then have the coders evaluate what can be programmed. (Not to say you can't be involved in the process mentioned above, of course you're knowledge is crucial) After that, then I propose we begin seeking our a new theme based on knowing how the game is going to be programmed and knowing to some degree what the player interaction is going to be like.

Just a thought, I don't know if we have enough people to split up like this but if this is something you guys think might work feel free to mention it here. If you oppose the idea, please mention that as well.

If yo split it up like that you are going to have major problems integrating them. Anything that is changed has to be considered in relation to the entire game - economy and warfare are not separate entities in prom.

Actually, they can be. War time economy consists of maintaining a large army. Where peace time is building. Set a general policy for each and its pretty basic.

Is this new game were going to be making considered a promi? With all these changes, it just might be a little too different to be put in the same category. I'm not saying we're starting from scratch or not keeping all of the main ideas/themes, just revamping them.

Even if warfare and econ do end up being tied together in the new game, once each team has managed to figure out their part we can then come together and figure out how to implement them smoothly for the next step.

How about a Discworld theme? (I know Volky would love that.) There are Pratchett fans on every street-corner. Pterry's pretty easygoing, I doubt he'd sue us. There are five quintillion races, countries, eras and characters we could make into heroes.

Fun, though if Pratchett kicks the bucket, we might have problems.
