New Spam Policy

We have separated users into two groups: confirmed and unconfirmed. When you sign up, you do not need to confirm your email or enter the digits from an image. You are just signed up and considered unconfirmed.

As an unconfirmed user, you may not reference remote content in your posts. (i.e. no links or images). You may not view the member listing, email members, send private messages, set an avatar, create a signature, search, or even show up in the member listing.

All these restrictions are lifted once you hit 5 posts, although posts in the Randomness forum do not count toward your post count. If we think you are a spammer, we may move you back to Unconfirmed. We might also change this 5-post threshold, or even change it to manual approval, if spammers figure out how to get around the restriction. We might even lower it if it seems more than enough in practice. But for now, it's just 5 posts.

I don't mind saying that I think this is going to solve our spam problems for a while, and even if the threshold has to be changed, this is the best way forward for us. But we'll see.

You haven't, you have only 4 posts. But since you've been around since before the new policy (you joined on the 5th), you're fine.

Obviously we don't need more spam. We need none, or at least less.

Very good move, Beatles.

When I logged in today, I found 3 spam entries in my inbox. And spammers almost ruined our forum at Valhall before I found some mods that stopped this.
