Welcome. Wasn't stupid, it took me a second to figure out what wasn't ringing quite true about your method. Seemed reasonable at first.

Anyway, how do the numbers crunch out for you, Volky?

Like you said, this is something of a game without knowing the actual tax rates in both countries, but assuming the tax rates are the same, I'd be "paying" 495 a year in Germany, and 270 a year in the UK, which is substantially lower than what I pay right now. I'm almost sure the tax rates aren't the same though. Canadian tax rates and US ones are similar, over in Europe they are very different. In Canada though, I'd be "paying" about 750 a year. That's all based on my estimated income of 10k a year though. If I get any of the jobs I am trying for, the numbers change to 1386 for Germany, 756 for the UK and 2352 for Canada. So I'd be paying less in the UK, a bit more in Germany, and a lot more in Canada.

Pooh! I wouldn't trust those lying bastards to give me the time of day. They're thieves and crooks on every level. At the very top, they wasted the grants the government gave them to develop a decent network infrastructure. They're the byword in anticompetitiveness. At the middle level, they have the effrontery to keep charging $20/month phone rentals to all their old customers who don't know better, because you can get a fine phone for half that price in any store. At the bottom level, they employ every trick in the book to try to overcharge their customers, witness the iPhone lawsuits and my own legion tangles with them. Their business model is to provide garbage service at high prices -- in everything from phonecards to cellphones to DSL, all of which I've tried at one point or another -- and use their monopoly and brand muscle to keep their share. Everyone I know who's used AT&T pretty much holds the same opinion.

No, this is just a sob story to justify some sort of rate hike they're going to spring on people and give bad press to the Dems.

If a credible company actually does this I'll listen up.

Oh and on a side note, I prefer to read from sources that at least try to maintain some slight appearance of impartiality, which is rather destroyed by calling the bill "ObamaCare" -- it's kind of like saying "Micro$oft" or like a Sun headline. At least the web page clearly states "Opinion".

This just isn't about AT&T you know. The point is, the bill cut the subsidies that kept companies paying for HC for retirees and such. Now that that is gone, its most likely that the companies will drop these people, and guess where they'll go. Right into the Medicare program which is more expensive per person than the fed pays out now.

Also, companies had to post this as is part of the business law. A lot more will be showing these in the coming months, and I'd like to see how GM is going to handle this, since they HAVE to be effected by this all and all.

The best part is that Congress is going to have meetings with the companies and try to bully them around more than likely, when they HAVE to release these reports as stated in the law. Great move.

Actually Neo, Rudder is authoritarian too.

I've become slightly more authoritarian, but my economics have gone much further to the left. I get called a conservative/republican all the time. Hard to believe I'm Center-Left Economically. Still rather Libertarian though. Weird to think I was once dead center. I'm still more moderate than most of you though. LOL.

Quite true. My views have actually changed/developed quite a bit since I last did the compass, but I have a feeling that I'd occupy roughly the same point on the graph.
