What you could say with boats and others is that you have 1 boat at 40% health. But I believe you also should state this somewhere in order to avoid confusion.

Perhaps lable numbers less than 1 as "small craft". Instead of 4.12 or something like that you would have 4 ships and 12 small craft involved in an attack.

Or... um... delete the ability to attack if you do not own a particular number, say 1, of large ships.
