well, i waited in line for the book at Barnes & Noble with my son on friday night with about 300+ other people for....the final Harry Potter book! hurrah!
and so, eventually, at 12:01 a.m., the book went on sale and me and my son got ahold of the Deathly Hallows.
700+ pages of pure potter fun awaited.

and it was awsome. really.
it, by far, was the saddest and thrilling of the seven books.
i am not going to throw in any spoilers in case there is anyone on this board who is reading it right now.
but!
feel free to either comment or not about the book, the series and, if there is anyone who has read it! cant wait to hear your opinion!

i should be back on here in....a few days...maybe....i dont know....we'll see!
all about FAVRE, come on...you know you want to click it

The Kraken, which is found primarily in Scandinavian myth, was a huge sea creature. It was said to lie at the bottom of the sea for a long time and then it would rest at the surface....Like the Midgard serpent in the Norse myths, the Kraken was supposed to rise to the surface at the end of the world.

It wasn't 700+ pages... Mine was 607 pages. And the ending was rather abrupt, some extra detail about what happens afterwards wouldn't have killed her but still a very enjoyable book. The subtle humour was good given the darker atmosphere of the book.

Although I'm not at all interested in reading the book, it's nice to see that it was an enjoyable experience for the fans. :D

No, it is the right book. Deathly Hallows? It's kind of hard to miss it. It is 607 pages. Unless Kraken got a special copy of the book with extra pages.

Slasher: why would you say that it is crap?

Daisy Head: why not read them?

i picked up the first book about 3 months ago for the first time and read it.
i was curious why my son was so obsessed by it and next thing you know: i blazed through the other five in two weeks time.
the last book was the best by far in my opinion and as a carnosaur of litatrure, i would recommend it to anyone.

I really liked it but, I agree with Arthus. A little more detail in the epiologue would have been great.

a note that Jim Dale does a superb job reading these books

I enjoyed all the books, though the 3rd was probably my fav.
I've disliked the turn the latest books have been taking, much darker than your standard junior fiction books
Slowly working my way though the last book now

...also, most people who say the books are crap are those that never read them. next time you go on a long trip grab the audio version from your local library or p2p.

Your book is bigger because the size of the book is different, and most likely font size and spacing, cause you know, the elderly have problems seeing... The content is identical.

I read the first 4 or so. They simply didn't grab me like they have so many others. They aren't horrible, but they aren't enjoyable enough for me to justify reading them over other books. Considering how little time I've had for reading in the past few years, they simply weren't a priority. And, to be honest, it's not my preferred genre. I'm mostly a high-fantasy and science fiction (in the vein of "Dune", not "Star Wars") person. Why won't I read it? I simply don't care for the series and its characters.

Besides which, all the overmarketed hype about a series which is, frankly, not the most engrossing or enjoyable read I've had, really, really annoys me. I have no desire to read them (I'd have to start from the beginning again, as it has been so long) in the first place and I don't think I could overcome the disgust of the hype anyway. I don't have any disrespect for those who do enjoy the series, but I do find all the bloody marketing absolutely nauseating.

I'm not saying "OMG I HAET IT because IT IS POPLAR". I tried it, didn't care for it, so I won't bother pursuing it. Also, while I have no disrespect for the fans of the series, I do wish it wasn't so in-your-face. One is "told" to read it because it's "so great". For some people, yes, but for others, no. It's not some panacea of fiction, goddamnit. It's an overmarketed book series of medium quality in a fairly unique setting that appeals to a wide demographic.

* Note: I rarely buy any fiction - get it from the library. It either has to be really cheap or really good to justify my purchase. :D

Aye, most, but not all. I might call it crap from time to time, but mostly because I'm calling the (to my mind) unwarranted hype crap. It's a medium-quality series, in my opinion. I've read over half of it, so I think I'm fairly justified in having a lower-than-the-norm opinion of it.

But, yeah, ANYBODY who calls something crap without actually reading it is full of it. Note that I don't call the final book crap, I merely say that the series holds no draw for me and, ergo, I will not bother reading it.

And, to be honest, the series generally IS "crap" if you judge it against the massive hype that has been generated around it. Relative to that, of course, and not when viewed in its own context. It's just not as good as everyone says. It's not horrible, just not... great. For me, of course. I can't claim to have the great "literary truth". I'm not a book reviewer. :P
