Exactly. What's the point of having a pile of features if the gameplay is broken, unfair, and unfun?

No, but it was approaching that. That's why we took out heros, and are trying to limit stock-storing, as well as market storing.

Speaking of which, I'm thinking the best cap on market might just be to allow only 25% of your troops to be stored. People could still store, but not enough to make these insane net jumps. Rather, storing would just be a reserve, something to draw on when you were in trouble.

25% will give you the capability to store as a "reserve", troops you can fall back on, use to suprise your enemies, etc. But it won't give you the ability to take the top by market storing...

If market storing is so easy then how come at the end of each set only a few players can jumb to huge nets and the rest stay small?

Because at the end of the set only a few players get on in time to take stuff off the market.

Or few are patient enough to store through the round.

Which really isn't that hard. Land grabbing is nothing, and it's not hard to go 100% mice, and be able to break most anybody in the game.
