Kraken, I haven't actually read more than the first two books. However I didn't enjoy them, I felt like I had already read them before. Funny thing is, my gran thought the same thing when I told her to try reading one then since she bollocked me for not liking them after she bought me them *laughs* - Then a few weeks/months later she spotted something in the paper saying other people thought the same thing which is very weird because, like you say, I don't know anyone other than me and my gran who doesn't like the HP books.

RE: books better than films;
I usually find that is the case anyway with most things.

Just because my book wasn't made for people who have problems seeing doesn't mean it's G rated...

Well the guy who put the book up beforehand was arrested. They caught him because he put the book on a site called Gaia and they tracked him down. Seriously, he could have at least scanned every page instead of taking a picture of each one. This guy was obviosuly an amateur.

The Kraken, which is found primarily in Scandinavian myth, was a huge sea creature. It was said to lie at the bottom of the sea for a long time and then it would rest at the surface....Like the Midgard serpent in the Norse myths, the Kraken was supposed to rise to the surface at the end of the world.

That Spanish "hacker" was actually mistaken in the plot points he spoiled: i.e., he was lying.

Yes, he's Canadian. By the way, the UK also has separate editions.

(I guess they figure everyone in the US has eyesight shot to hell or something... :P)

It's not "Adult" and "Child" versions, it's different size print. :P

Besides, as Beatles said, the Raincoast editions are the same as the Bloomsbury editions in the UK.

Bloomsbury calls the one without the cartoonish graphics the "Adult" one, under the assumption that the over-30s will shell out more money for something they can respectably read on the bus. :P

Hm, well, I read that the Raincoast books are the same as the Bloomsbury ones, so I have a feeling it's the same in Canada. :D

Haha, yeah, it's exactly as Beatles said.

Adult version:

Normal version:

No difference in content.

And both versions look nothing like the US version... weird. Heh, in the kid one, Harry totally looks like some square-jawed action hero from a movie poster.

The US one looks like this. I prefer it to the other two.

I think the US and British/Canadian versions had different covers for every edition. Two different illustrators; the British fellow had a much more cartoony style than the American lady. The American cover is more akin to the style of cover illustration for most fantasy novels, at least in North America (although it's still more cartoony than most). For my part, I like the Canadian/British "adult" cover the most.
