I didn't even realize Desmond was still a Bear, anyway I think with the loss of Thomas Jones, Lance Briggs (I think he left) and standout returners penchant for tanking the following year I expect Chicago to be less effective this year.
Yes, Desmond is still a Bear, Cedric Benson is as good or better than Thomas Jones, and Lance Briggs is still with the Bears. As far as standout returners penchant for tanking... well, I'm assuming you are talking about Hester. Unlikely in my opinion, he's lost none of his speed, and his hands are going to be, if anything, better, now that he's a WR. If he hadn't tripped, he would have returned the opening kickoff in the Bears/Colts preseason game for a TD. Chicago will be fine on those fronts.
If Grossman can stop being so fragile minded their passing game might help alleviate both of those problems. Hopefully he does since Berrian is a local athlete that I like to see succeed.
Grossman is the main factor in how the Bears' season will turn out. He was last year, he will be this year.

Current poll question- If you had to win one game, which quarterback - in his prime - would you choose to lead your team?

Tom Brady 15%

Joe Montana 40%

Brett Favre 13%

John Elway 16%

Peyton Manning 16%

Hey look who's dead last and look who's in first with 3X as many votes as Mr last place

Why comment? Even if Quinn plays this year, it's still going to take a couple more years to really turn the Browns around. They had the 5th pick in the first round this year. That's a pretty good indication of how bad they suck. But I do expect more out of them this year than last, if Quinn gets play time. I do think that trade up to get Quinn was a smart move on their part. IMO, he was the QB to pick in this years draft.

Sorry I typoed, I meant pic not pick, as in picture. The one I posted yesterday of Quinn and some youngish boys holding each others' tools.

Oh, that was Quinn? I couldn't tell. Living in South Bend, a scant few miles from ND, I have seen his picture more than a few times. So the fact that I did not recognize him means either A) It's a really bad quality photo with weird light angles and Quinn has changed a lot since I last saw a pic of him or B ) It's a fake, possibly a photoshop, though it doesn't look it, or someone who looks somewhat like Quinn, with poor picture quality, and weird lighting to cover up that fact. Or C) It's from awhile ago, and Quinn was younger and thus looked different. I honestly couldn't tell you which is right. If it is him, and it is recent, it's kinda creepy, but we don't know the first thing about what's going on in that picture.

your poll is invalid as it is peoples opinions. but hey! say what you wish: Bret Farve at least made it to the list out of the........100's of choices?
hmmm...

anyways!

Appalachian State's stunning win at Michigan could be the greatest upset in football history! did anyone catch this game? i did not, i care not for Michigan nor 1AA Appalachian State. it was supposed to be a opener for Michigan that would be as easy as 123, or it was supposed to be. no, instead, Ranked #5 Michigan state, a 1A school, got Whalloped by a non-ranked 1AA school. hliarious :P
here is a stroy about it: http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaaf/news?slug=dw-appstate090107&prov=yhoo&type=lgns

other than that, Tennessee lost to California :( it was a good game though with the 11th ranked Tennessee v/s the 12th Ranked California.

Arn't all polls people's opinions?

I'd like to catch the replays of that one, kinda like to watch a replay of last years Boise St upset.

Anyway, that particular pic of Quinn seems to have been an accurate one but I do not know how old it is. There's also the picture of him dressed up as one of the Village People holding his crotch as he's dancing around, but considering the circumstances I don't think much of that one.

Not just could be, it IS the greatest upset in college football history. Only one other even approaches it. That would be UC Davis versus Stanford. That was a 20-17 victory for UC Davis, but it still doesn't match the Michigan game. At one point Appalachian State scored 21 unanswered points on a Michigan defense that was supposed to take them to the National Championship. When I first heard the score, it was 28-14, Appalachian State. Michigan had to come from behind against a 1-AA team! That loss for Michigan nearly erases the disappointment I have from Notre Dame for getting spanked by Georgia Tech. I mean, ND has an excuse. Several in fact. Michigan has no excuse whatsoever.

I was sad to see the Vols go down to Cal as well. I like them more than I like Cal, except when they play ND. Honestly there are only a few teams I hate and want to see lose every time, no matter who they play. Michigan, Michigan State, and USC. Especially USC.

Mmk then.

Michigan, Michigan State, and USC. Especially USC
you know; i couldnt agree more.
i am a big SEC fan myself. that is not just because i live in the SEC area and such. i like Notre Dame as well Popov and i dont mind seeing a Ohio game from time to time.
i guess my favourite collge teams, or at least the top 5, would be:
<span style='color:orange'>Tennessee</span>
<span style='color:red'>Georgia</span>
Virgina Tech
<span style='color:red'>Florida State</span>
<span style='color:red'>Alabama</span>

one thing that has made me a growing fan of college football is the fast paced, high impact, never ending action that the NFL is sometimes lacking.

Last year I would have included Ohio State on that list of teams I hate, but ever since Florida spanked them, I don't really care, I just didn't like them because they were so overrated and everyone seemed to have such a big hard-on for them.

I kinda like the SEC too. They certainly have the highest concentration of exciting and truly good teams of any of the conferences.

I agree, college football is more exciting than the NFL, in many cases.

I don't really have a top five of college teams. I'm a die-hard Notre Dame fan, and the rest are just teams I like more or less, and those vary from year to year.

Colts just SPANKED the Saints. What was all that about the Saints going to the Super Bowl??? *laughs*. I disagree, and now I have 41 reasons why.

make that 31 reasons Popov: the Saints did score 10 :P
so what? was Indianapolis undefeated last season when the won the superbowl?
hmmm...?
nope: they werent.
I was greatly dissapointed in Drew Brees however, he did quite the shoddy job for someone who led the leauge in passing last season. maybe and i am quite sure of this, things will turn around for him.
but! the first half, which i listened to on the radio as i was at work, was quite exciting and a good game. 10-10 i believe the score was. and then! BOOM! Indianapolis opened up a can of whoop ass. mucho credit to the Indy Defense.
but, dont count the Saints out. ;)

No, but the Colts didn't lose their home opener and while they did lose to the Jaguars 44-17 late in the season, it was after going 9-0 for the beginning of the season and clinching their playoff spot. The Colts didn't just beat New Orleans, they stomped them. A 31 point margin of victory is a massive statement. Add on to that the fact that the Saints only touchdown was a defensive one, and in fact only scored 3 points offensively the whole game, and suddenly their Superbowl aspirations seem a whole lot less likely.

It was a decent game first half. Then the Colts blew it wide open.

BTW, it is 41 reasons, because that was the number of points they scored on New Orleans. If you wanna make the SuperBowl, you gotta have defense. Saints didn't have much of one.

Almost as bad as New England losing 31-0 in their season opener (they went on to win the Super Bowl)

They lost 1 game and it was to the defending champs, who are outside of their conference. If you're gonna lose a game (and you will) it might as well be one like that since it's pretty far down in the tie breaker procedures. Surethe play was definately substandard but it's a long season, plenty of time to change it up.
